An Affordable and Effective Solution for Stained Car Seats: Discover This Dollar Tree Cleaning Hack

Cleaning and maintaining your car’s interior is essential to ensure a fresh and pleasant driving experience. While some parts of the car, like the dashboard and floor mats, can be easily cleaned, removing stubborn stains from car seats can be a challenge. You may wonder which cleaner is safe to use and how to effectively eliminate the stains for good.

Accidental spills and leaks from food containers and grocery bags can leave unsightly marks on your car seats. While there are specialized cleaners available for car upholstery stains, and you can also hire professionals for the task, one woman shared a cost-effective Dollar Tree glass cleaner hack that does the job for just a dollar.

In a popular TikTok video by creator Adessa (@dessa.do), she demonstrates her experiment with the Dollar Tree glass cleaner hack for car seat stains. After explaining the purpose of the hack, Adessa takes viewers on a trip to the Dollar Tree store, where she locates Chase’s Home Value Glass Cleaner with Ammonia in the cleaning aisle. She showcases her stained front and back car seats and proceeds to generously spray the glass cleaner on one of the seats. Using a scrub brush, she works the product into the fabric.

Towards the end of the video, Adessa reveals two photos displaying a remarkable before-and-after transformation—the car seats appear clean and free of stains. The video has garnered over 320,000 likes on TikTok, showcasing the effectiveness of this Dollar Tree glass cleaner hack for car seat cleaning.

Effectiveness Assessment: Putting the Dollar Tree Glass Cleaner Hack to the Test

I must admit, I’m not the best at thoroughly cleaning my car, and as a result, the interior of each car I’ve owned has suffered from neglect. It was effortless for me to spot two stains on my car seats that were in dire need of cleaning. Determined to test the effectiveness of the Dollar Tree glass cleaner hack, I made a trip to my local Dollar Tree and purchased the same glass cleaner mentioned in the video, priced at $1.25 plus tax. Following the scrubbing method demonstrated in the TikTok video, I sprayed the cleaner on my seats and began the cleaning process. Even before allowing it to dry, I could already see positive results. Unlike the TikTok creator, who didn’t wipe her seats with a cloth, I chose to do so to prevent the glass cleaner from spreading to the leather portions of my upholstery.

While it may not be intuitive to consider a glass cleaner as an upholstery cleaner, this TikTok hack proved effective enough to warrant inclusion in your arsenal of car cleaning tips and tricks. Out of the four stains present on my front-right and back-left car seats, the cleaner successfully eliminated all but one. Although there were concerns about the cleaner potentially exacerbating the stains, I noticed that the stain which remained showed a slightly lighter color than before. However, since the cleaner effectively removed the other stains, I did not consider this to be a significant issue. It is worth mentioning that I performed a spot test before applying the cleaner to the entire seat, making it somewhat surprising that one stain showed a lighter color.

If you have concerns about potentially lightening a stain, it may be advisable to refrain from using this hack. However, for individuals with older cars featuring worn-out seats, this inexpensive solution is worth considering. It is important to be cautious when using the cleaner, ensuring that you avoid inhaling the fumes and refrain from mixing it with bleach, as the combination of ammonia and bleach produces toxic gases.

Furthermore, it is crucial to note that ammonia can cause damage to certain fabrics. Therefore, if your car’s upholstery is relatively new, this hack may not be worth attempting. Always conduct a spot test before applying the cleaner extensively to your seat to avoid any potential adverse effects.
